Wondering how long it takes to build a semi-custom home with Classic Homes’ northern VA build on your lot program? This handy timeline will help you know what to expect when you build a new home with us!
First of all, the big picture: It takes 12-18 months from our initial consultation to handing over the keys. This timeline depends on the floor plan you choose, the amount of customization you want, how long it takes to get permits, and of course the weather!
Within the overall time period, here’s how long each phase of the process takes and what is involved in each one:
Initial Consultation & Planning: 1-2 months
- Evaluating your lot and determining what your options are
- Exploring our floor plans and choosing the best one for you
- Defining your lifestyle needs and goals for your home
- Setting a budget so there are no financial surprises at the end
- Answering your questions
Design Personalization & Architecture: 2-4 months
- Adjusting your floor plan as needed to fit your lifestyle
- Reviewing every part of the plan so you have a clear picture of the home you’re building
- Visiting our Design Center to select your flooring, tiles, cabinetry, hardware and other personalizing features
- Finalizing plans
Permitting & Approvals: 1-3 months
- Submitting paperwork and plans to the county for approval
- Keeping you updated on the approval process (Turn time depends on the complexity of your home and the county you’re building in.)
Sitework & Home Foundation: 1-2 months
- Prepping your lot for construction after permits are received
- Clearing the lot, grading, testing soil, excavation and other sitework
- Building the foundation
Framing & Rough-in: 2- 3 months
- Framing the exterior and interior structure of the home
- Roofing
- Roughing in electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems
Curated Finishes & Details: 3-5 months
- Installing cabinets, flooring, lighting, hardware and other selections you chose in the Design Center. This is where you really see your vision come to life!
Final Inspections & Walkthroughs: 1 month
- Checking everything in your new home to ensure it meets building code requirements and measures up to Classic Homes’ quality standards
- Walking through the home with you to get your feedback and make sure we didn’t miss anything
- Completing any punch list items and inviting you back for a final walkthrough to make sure the home meets your expectations
- Handing you the keys shortly after your final walkthrough!
